Mosquitoes

Today's biology topic are mosquitoes and their apparently unevolved nature. I'd like to point out that mosquitos can't possible have evolved by natural selection and are rather the product of a malevolent god. The argumentation can be broken down into 3 major points:

1. They are slow

Unlike flies, mosquitos are very slow and, when spotted by human with a news paper roll, dead. They are a lot more annoying than flies, and hence humans have more incentive to kill them. Therefore they should be a victim more often and evolve the ninja skills of flies. But as we all know, they are dead slow.

2. They are loud

As a parasite you need to be discrete and sneaky, so that the host doesn't notice you cashing in on his work. The mosquito, being, yes, a parasite, but also unnervingly annoying and loud when flying around, completely contradicts the parasite principle. More so, the noise they generate is not one monotonous sound but rather like a learner trying to pull off from a standstill.

3. They don't understand humans

Another important fact for a parasite is of course to (explictly or implicitly) know the host's body, that is, which parts are dangerous and which are useful. As if on purpose, the mosquito choses the worst time of the day, to feast on its victim: bedtime. A human trying to fall asleep turns off the lamp and calms down. That's when the time has come for the mosquito. As inconspicuous as an ambulance ambushing a gazelle with the sirens in full gear, the mosquito slowly approaches the face of the victim, to make sure that it is properly heard. The mosquito flies its circles around the head, only pleased with a human beside himself with rage. Drawn attention to itself in a such a way, the mosquito is happily smashed against the wall by anything that comes into the human's hands or waits for a second round, as soon as the lights turn off.

I think, it doesn't seem too far-fetched, that mosquitos can't have possibly evolved by natural selection. The suicidal behaviour of those insects should lead to a quick and merciless extinction. So I have to postulate a malevolent god, who constantly generates mosquitos to torment us on our bedtime.

Besides that, I'm an atheist, of course.
